Assemble, Youth Demand, and Health Workers for Palestine to host ‘Assembly for Palestine’ after Palestine Solidarity march on Saturday

On Saturday 6th July at 4:30pm, Assemble is working with Youth Demand and Health Workers for Palestine to host an Assembly in Victoria Embankment Gardens in London, immediately after the mass march organised by Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

Assemblies are open meetings, facilitated to produce solutions to local, national, and international issues. Assemble is a grassroots group (part of the Umbrella network) who are organising, supporting, and funding Assemblies across the country which will feed into a ‘House of the People’, which is to be launched 17th July 2024. The ‘House of the People’ is a new legislative body which will be poised to replace the House of Lords.

Stewards from Assemble, Youth Demand, and Health Workers for Palestine will guide demonstrators from Parliament Square which is where the march terminates, to Victoria Embankment Gardens in Westminster, 15 minutes walk away. There will be free food provided.

A spokesperson for Assemble said:

“Labour is in Government now, but their track record is appalling. It couldn’t be more important for the people to democratically decide what needs to be done to build peace, and find justice for the people of Palestine. Nobody voted for genocide, yet here we are.”

“All are welcome – concerned individuals, families, campaign groups, nurses, teachers, students, and those just wanting to find out more. This is how politics should work. We’ll get together and decide.”

Assemble has supported and endorsed 27 candidates in the General Election, who have all used Assemblies to decide their policy platforms and power their campaigns. This number includes Shockat Adam, now MP-elect for Leicester South. Many of these candidates were members of their local Assemblies who were nominated by their peers. Others included Leicester East MP Claudia Webbe and former PSC chair Kammel Hawwash, as well as former Labour politicians Shannel Johnson and Jabu Nala-Hartley.
